About The Author
Micah Carlson is a PhD Candidate in US History with a concentration in Body, Place, and Identity at the University of North Texas, where she focuses on the local intersections of race, white supremacy, and violence. In May 2020, Carlson completed her master’s thesis on racial violence in Denton County during the rise of the Ku Klux Klan. She has a passion for local, public-facing history and has contributed to several projects in Denton County on race and historical preservation. Carlson has presented at numerous conferences, meetings, classrooms, and events and her work has been featured on television, in podcasts, and in print media in the DFW market. For her pioneering work on racial violence in Denton County, Carlson was named a "Citizen Watchdog" by Dallas Morning News and "Watchdog of the Year" in December 2019.
